A village beyond time

Abondance is one of those rare places where time seems to have stood still. Its century-old chalets, green alpine pastures and famous medieval abbey form a setting unlike any other in Haute-Savoie. No hustle, no crowds — just the mountains, the silence and the authenticity.

The Abondance Abbey, a treasure from the Middle Ages

At the heart of the village, the Abondance Abbey is one of the best-preserved monuments in the French Alps. Founded in the 12th century by Augustinian canons, it houses 15th-century Gothic frescoes listed as Historic Monuments. A must-see, just a short walk from the hotel.

Four seasons, four faces

In winter, Abondance transforms into a family ski resort with direct access to the Portes du Soleil ski area — 600 km of slopes between France and Switzerland. The cable car of the Essert is just a 5 minutes walk from the hotel.

In spring, the alpine pastures are carpeted with wildflowers and hikers take to the trails. It is the ideal season to explore the surroundings in complete tranquillity.

In summer, Lac des Plagnes (a classified natural site) and Lake Geneva, just 30 minutes away, offer refreshing escapes. The Sunday morning market brings together local producers and craftspeople from the valley.

In autumn, the colours of the fir forests and the crisp mountain air create a particularly soothing atmosphere. The cheese season is in full swing — Abondance AOP is produced right here.
